5 Reasons To Reflect On Life

Reflecting on your life can change the trajectory of your future for the better. When you reflect, there are many benefits that can come from it. However, there are many people in this world who don’t feel they have a purpose or don’t know how to find it. In 2019, 46% of Americans said that they strongly agree that they have a purpose. Personally, I believe 100% of Americans should feel that they have a purpose because everyone is created in God’s image and are special. However, a person needs a reason to reflect on their life so they can improve it. Here are 5 reasons why people should reflect on life.

1. Learn From Your Mistakes

Mistakes will come for everyone. Nobody is perfect! However, learning from your mistakes allows you to push through and transform to a better version of you. People don’t learn just from experience, you have to reflect on your experience as well. That is the key to people being successful in life.

Reflection 1: “We do not learn from experience, we learn from reflecting on experience.” – John Dewey

2. It Gives You Fantastic Ideas

Many people get their ideas from the reflection of their experiences. Think about it. People usually come up with amazing entrepreneurial ideas because they had an experience with a product, company, person, etc. Through reflecting on their experience, he or she can come up with something that may be more innovative than whatever product, company, etc. that they experienced.

Reflection 2: A person can change the future by reflecting on his or her past.

3. It Makes You Happier

Reflection allows you to focus on the wins and good moments of life. This can be the catalyst for a person finding joy because they can learn to embrace the victories that they receive. When we do reflect, it is too easy to not acknowledge the good things and put more emphasis on the negative things that one may have experience. You are God’s creation and loved. Embrace that fact!

Reflection 3: Life is hard as it is. Reflect and embrace the wins that you have in life.

4. It Gives You Perspective

There is much perspective to be gained when we reflect. Throughout life, we come across obstacles plenty of times. It may be a relationship, a financial concern, a sad moment on a television show, etc. However, reflecting allows you to see the bigger picture in life. It allows you to see that many obstacles that seem big are smaller than we think and that we can overcome the task with flying colors. Perspective allows you to gain wisdom in life.

Reflection 4: “When you have that point of view, then literary the world becomes your library.” – Kobe Bryant

5. It Helps You Understand Yourself Better

I run across many people every day that are phenomenal, but are lost. I’m not talking about lost from a particular location. I am talking about the lost as in they don’t know who they are or their purpose is in Life. Reflecting allows you to have conversations with yourself and allows you to better understand yourself. You can learn your weakness, strengths, and even passions by simply reflecting. Understanding yourself allows you to have that sense of security because you finally have found yourself. By the way, a person can have more than one purpose. However, you never will find your purpose or purposes if you don’t take the time to find them.

Reflection 5: Reflect and find your purpose so that you can make the positive difference that you were destined to make!

Proverbs 27:19 – As in water face reflects face, So the heart of man reflects man.
